This project supports two local schools on Koh Samui that have a very poor record with English learning. Our volunteers help with pronunciation and create fun and interesting lessons each day. The children at the schools are from poor local families and without the most basic of knowledge of English will always fail to get out of the rut that they find themselves in. By having a good grasp of English these kids have the tools to find work in an ever increasing tourism market on the island, or to find places in further education at schools, colleges and universities on the mainland and in the big cities.
Teaching English to children aged from 5 to 12 years old. The class sizes vary from around 15 to 30 and each class will run for around 90 minutes. Our project coordinator is a highly experienced TEFL qualified teacher who will go through all teaching plans and methods with each volunteer. At the end of each teaching day the volunteers will meet to discuss the day and to plan for tomorrow.
Both volunteer houses have three bedrooms, fitted kitchen, 2 or 3 bathrooms, in and outdoor seating areas, TV with DVD player, FREE WiFi and more. They are both located a short walk from amenities such as markets, shops, restaurants, bars and most importantly, the beach!
The meeting point is at the Bangkok airport (the official arrival day is Friday).
Koh Samui is a big island located 30kms off the mainland in the Gulf of Thialand. Samui is one of Thailand’s most popular tourist resorts with stunning beaches, great activities, excellent restaurants, shopping and nightlife. But away from the 6 star resorts there are many poor communities desperate for assistance. The two schools we support are located in the poor fishing community of Ban Tai and the upcoming tourist region of Bo Phut.
Love for children, patience and understanding for cultural differences, teaching experience welcome but not a necessity to participate. Good working knowledge of the english language.
